Muslim Presence in Sylhet Sylhet, a major city in northeastern Bangladesh, has a long-established Muslim community that forms the majority of its population. The city's Islamic heritage is deeply rooted, with numerous mosques and religious institutions serving the faithful. The Muslim presence here is not a recent phenomenon but a centuries-old tradition that shapes the cultural and social fabric of Sylhet.

Local Mosques and Prayer Places The city is dotted with mosques that cater to the spiritual needs of residents. Notable among them is Al Hamra Jame Masjid, located on Kazi Ilias Road, which serves as a central prayer place for the surrounding area. Other mosques like Baitul Aman Jame Masjid on Hazrat Shahjalal Road and At-Taqwa Masjid and Islamic Center on Kumarpara Road provide convenient options for worshippers. The presence of these prayer places across neighborhoods such as Dakshin Surma, Silam, and Kanishail reflects the widespread implantation of the Muslim community in Sylhet.

Prayer Times Orientation Muslims in Sylhet observe the five daily prayers—Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha—according to the local timezone (Asia/Dhaka). Prayer times vary throughout the year due to changes in sunrise and sunset, influenced by the city's latitude and seasonal shifts. The Qibla direction for prayer is oriented towards Mecca, and the distance from Sylhet to the Kaaba is approximately 5,100 kilometers. The calculation method used for prayer times is the default for Bangladesh, ensuring accuracy for daily worship.
