Muslim Presence in Setúbal Setúbal, a port city on the Sado River estuary, has a growing Muslim community that has established itself over recent decades. While the historical Muslim presence in the region dates back to the Al-Andalus period, the contemporary community is largely composed of immigrants and their descendants from various countries, including those from South Asia, North Africa, and the Middle East. This diversity enriches the local Islamic landscape, with residents and visitors alike contributing to a vibrant religious life.

Community and Prayer Places The Muslim community in Setúbal is served by several prayer places, with the most prominent being Mesquita de Setúbal - Masjid At-Taqwa, located at R. João Maria Jales 8. This mosque serves as a central hub for daily prayers and community gatherings. Additionally, the city benefits from proximity to the Lisbon metropolitan area, which hosts numerous mosques and Islamic centers, such as the Lisbon Central Mosque and Mesquita do Laranjeiro - Masjid Al-Madinah in Almada. These facilities provide a network of prayer spaces for Muslims living in or visiting Setúbal and its surrounding areas.

Prayer Time Orientation Prayer times in Setúbal follow the daily rhythm of Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha, which vary throughout the year due to the city's latitude and the changing seasons. The times are calculated using the Europe/Lisbon timezone and a standard calculation method. Muslims in Setúbal face the Qibla direction, which is oriented towards Mecca, located thousands of kilometers to the east. Understanding these variations helps residents and travelers plan their daily prayers accurately.
