Muslim Presence in Johannesburg: Johannesburg is home to a diverse and established Muslim community that has grown over generations. The city's Muslim population includes descendants of early Indian and Malay settlers, as well as more recent immigrants from various parts of Africa and the Middle East. This multicultural heritage is reflected in the city's Islamic institutions and the daily life of its Muslim residents, who contribute to Johannesburg's vibrant social and economic fabric.

Community Implantation and Mosques: The Muslim community in Johannesburg is well-served by numerous mosques and prayer places spread across the city and its suburbs. Notable among these is the Nizamiye Mosque in Midrand, a prominent landmark that serves as a central place of worship and community gathering. Other key prayer places include Houghton Masjid in Houghton Estate, Masjid Siratul Jannah in Johannesburg South, and Masjid Ash Shifa in Mayfair. These mosques, along with many others in areas such as Lenasia, Randburg, Alberton, and Germiston, provide accessible spaces for daily prayers and community activities.

Prayer Time Orientation: For Muslims in Johannesburg, the five daily prayers—Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha—structure the day according to the sun's position. Prayer times vary throughout the year due to Johannesburg's latitude and the changing seasons, with earlier sunrises and sunsets in summer and later ones in winter. The city operates on Africa/Johannesburg time (SAST, UTC+2). The Qibla direction for prayer is oriented towards Mecca, and the distance from Johannesburg to Mecca is approximately 5,500 kilometers. The calculation method used for prayer times is typically the Muslim World League or similar standard, ensuring consistency for the local community.
