Muslim Presence in Belém Belém, the capital of Pará state in northern Brazil, has a small but established Muslim community. The city's Muslim presence reflects the broader history of Islam in Brazil, which arrived through African slaves and later immigrants. While precise historical records are limited, the community has grown steadily, contributing to the city's multicultural fabric. Today, Muslims in Belém practice their faith in a predominantly Christian society, maintaining their religious traditions through local prayer gatherings and community events.

Local Prayer Places The Muslim community in Belém is served by a small number of prayer spaces. One notable location is the Lilian Monteiro Gomes prayer place, situated in the nearby city of Barcarena, about 21 km from central Belém. This facility provides a dedicated space for worship for Muslims in the Barcarena area. While Belém itself may have additional informal prayer rooms, the Lilian Monteiro Gomes site represents a key point of reference for the local Muslim population, especially for those residing in the southern suburbs and the industrial region of Barcarena.

Prayer Time Orientation Muslims in Belém follow the five daily prayers: Fajr (dawn), Dhuhr (noon), Asr (afternoon), Maghrib (sunset), and Isha (night). Prayer times vary throughout the year due to Belém's equatorial latitude, resulting in relatively consistent day length and minimal seasonal variation. The city observes the America/Belem timezone. The Qibla direction for prayer is oriented towards Mecca, with a specific bearing that can be determined using local maps or compass. The distance from Belém to Mecca is approximately 10,000 km. Prayer times are calculated using standard Islamic methods, ensuring accuracy for daily observance.
