Auwal Masjid, situated at 43 Dorp Street in the historic Bo-Kaap area of Cape Town, holds the distinction of being the oldest mosque in South Africa, founded in 1794. It was established by Tuan Guru, a Muslim prince from Tidore who was imprisoned on Robben Island. The mosque is a cornerstone of the Cape Malay Muslim community and a symbol of religious freedom.
