The Bodhgaya Bodhi Tree is a revered sacred fig tree (Ficus religiosa) located in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, India. It is believed to be the tree under which Siddhartha Gautama, the founder of Buddhism, attained enlightenment around 500 BCE. The current tree is a descendant of the original, planted from a cutting of the Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. The site is part of the Mahabodhi Temple Complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and attracts pilgrims and tourists from all over the world. The tree is surrounded by a stone platform and is a focal point for meditation and prayer.
